I am a 28 year old who had EVLT and experienced extreme bruising and pain after the procedure (with much follow-up with my MD). It's now been 4 months and I am still experiencing pain in the area! What could be causing this? Can this be normal?
There are a lot of unanswered issues here and more relevant information is needed before giving an opinion as to what is occurring. Start be seeking a second opinion. In the interim, take Swell-X PT to relieve inflammation.

What has the follow up ultrasound shown? Is the vein completely closed without any flow in it? Is there trapped blood in the vein? In order to answer your question fairly, I would need an ultrasound report from the follow up appointment, which, if the clinic did not do another ultrasound to follow up, then I would recommend finding another clinic. Make sure your physician is accredited by the American College of Phlebology.

It isn't typical to experience long term pain and severe bruising after vein ablation. When performed by and experienced board certified vascular trained surgeon who specializes in treating varicose veins the post operative healing is very short.

It is unusual to have pain for o long after the procedure. It is possible that there was an excess of surrounding tissue damage during the procedure. Perhaps due to excess energy delivered during the procedure.

It is unusual to still have pain four months after endovenous vein closure but it can occur especially if the treated veins were close to the skin. Sometimes the heat from the laser with also heat the overlying skin resulting in prolonged discomfort. Also, if the vein can be felt under the skin, it may be clotted and evacuating the blood may help. Local care with heat may help and oral ibuprofen may be beneficial.

The answer is no. When vein treatments are done correctly, a person's legs should be feeling really good by four months. The reason you are probably still in pain is because you either have trapped blood in the treated vein and/or you have feeders feeding into your treated vein.

Not normal. You have to be seen by a doctor. Full ultrasound and examination.
