varicose vein

I had varicose vein surgery on the 18th of April. After surgery, I noticed that one of the veins on my leg (below my knee) was still there. When will it disappear?

What kind of procedure did you have? I will say that which ever procedure it was, one procedure is not likely to fix everything. Usually people need anywhere from 2-6 procedures in order to receive a full scope of treatment.

Needs Phlebectomy if it doesn't go away in the next two months.

It is not possible to remove all the veins at time of the procedure. Statistically 50% of varicose veins will shrink down after ablation if left untouched. As a board certified vascular trained surgeon I remove as many of the bulging veins as possible at time of ablation using microphlebectomy (tiny punctures and removing segments of the vein). Still, there may be residual veins, wear your hose as much as possible and be patient. It may shrink down over the next couple months.

Most of the times those veins below the knee will not "disappear" unless they are treated, either with phlebectomies (removing them) and/or sclerotherapy. You should get a Vein Specialist with enough experience to properly treat all your vein problems.

No varicose vein goes away until it is treated. Think of it this way. If you have a new balloon, it is normally very tight. Now if you blow it up and then let the air out, that balloon is not stretched out. It will never return to normal. Your veins are no different.

Probably one of two things has occurred-either the vein was missed or it may have been disconnected through a microphlebectomy incision and now you can feel a hematoma behind the treated vein. Either way, it can be treated by evacuation if hematoma or sclerotherapy or microphlebectomy if the vein is still there. Go back to your treating physician.
