Why is there so much scarring from ambulatory phlebectomy?

A friend of mine had ambulatory phlebectomy and now her leg is scarred from about 50 little incisions that never really healed. Everything online says "minimal" scarring, but is that really true? It wasn't in her case and I don't know why. Do you have any idea?

Some individuals form hypertrophic scars following ambulatory phlebectomy. They should be less than 3mm in length and usually more than 25 per surgery is unusual.

Most of the time, ambulatory phlebectomy only results in minimal scarringrarely can you see the scars after a few months. Some people don't heal as well as others and sometimes the scars will be more prominent. Myself for example, I would be one of those people that would scar and the scars would not fade. Sometimes it can depend on exposure to the sun, which will make scars more visible.

Unfortunately, your question is not really possible to answer without knowing much more about your friend, and probably evaluating her in person. Has she asked the doctor who performed the procedure? It is certainly a reasonable question.

I experienced severe bruising and intense pain 8 days after ambulatory phlebectomy and EVLT. I could not even touch the area from my right groin all the way down to my knee. I followed all of the doctor's orders given post-op. Upon a recheck yesterday, no infection was found, but during the ultrasound the pain upon the docs pressing the area was excruciating and I felt a burning sensation go all the way up leg. What's going on? Could I have a hematoma?
