How soon after VNUS closure can I have sex? Is it normal to have pain in the untreated leg? What's the risk of getting a blood clot after treatment?
Hello! I just had the VNUS closure procedure 4 days ago. When is it OK to have sex again? Also, I noticed that I'm experiencing a bit of pain in the opposite leg that I didn't have surgery on. Is that normal? Completely unrelated or a problem? Also, I had an ultrasound Wednesday(2 days after) to make sure there were no blood clots. All looked great. Am I out of the woods now, or is there still chance I can develop a blood clot later on?

You should talk with your surgeon ASAP if you are concerned about blood clots in the other leg. He will advise you on normal activities. Each surgeon has different protocols.

You can have sex after a closure procedure as soon as you feel comfortable. Pain in the opposite leg should be unrelated to the treated leg. The chance of developing a clot is greatest in the first 2 weeks post-ablation and minimum after that. The chances of developing a post-ablation clot overall is very low.

Sex is ok as long as you are comfortable. Pain in the opposite leg is not usual. An ultrasound would rule out a blood clot. The longer the time following surgery, the less the risk for a clot. If not contraindicated, take an aspirin a day, either 81 or 324mg. This helps prevent clots.
