I had ELA on both legs and still have fatigue after 2 weeks. Why would my leg (mid-calf to foot) be swollen?

I had the ELA procedure done 2 weeks ago. The right leg was done first, the front and then the back 2 days later. The next week, the same was done to the left leg. My right leg from mid-calf to my foot is swollen and double in size. I feel a hard lump at the procedure area. What do you think is going on? I go to the doctor today and the previous ultrasound showed all was fine.

You need to be evaluated with ultrasound ASAP to rule out a blood clot in the deep vein. Doing both veins in a couple days is a lot. I space procedures (usually by a week or two), especially if two veins on the same leg are to be done. There can be localized inflammation at the access site for a week or two. I recommend massage with Dermaka or arnica cream several times a day and wearing compression hose.

This is a difficult question, and it is not perfectly clear what your initial diagnosis was. In our practice, it is uncommon to need more than one ablation (ELA) procedure per limb. If you are worse after the procedure, I suggest another ultrasound to look not only at the big veins above the knee, but of the calf veins where you are having worsening symptoms. Sadly, not all ultrasonographers are credentialed to see what pathology is evident in a limb. This is not the normal course after treatment in our opinion.

They may need to scan you again; otherwise, I would see your doctor to determine what is going on. It could be a phlebitis from a more superficial vein closing off.
