If I have the veins in my pelvis tied off or have an embolism, will I still be able to safely get pregnant? Could the Mirena have caused my PCS?

I've been having pain and nausea with my pelvic congestion syndrome, and it's causing a lot of urinary distress. This has been going on for the last 6 months. I have had 3 kids and I experienced no painful periods before or after. I had Mirena placed in March 2014 and by August the pain started. Yesterday I was diagnosed with PCS. Could the device have caused this? Will having it taken out reduce my symptoms? If I have an embolism or the veins in my pelvis tied off, can I safely get pregnant?

Our advice is to contact the doctor who performed the procedure and inform them of your symptoms. Speak to them about your question regarding future pregnancies.

PCS can develop when vein disease develops in the pelvic cavity. It is not caused by your Mirena, but the hormones present in the Mirena could make the symptoms worse. Taking it out may or may not reduce your symptoms significantly. It really depends on how much vein disease you have in your pelvis. Treatment wise, you can either get the embolization procedures done or have the external veins on the groin treated. Treating the external vulvar veins tends to help many people decrease their pain.
