I have a warm, hard, painful knot two months after vein ablation. Is this normal?

Two months after vein ablation I have a hard, painful red knot and swelling on my calf that feels warmer than the surrounding area. I went back two days ago and after scanning the leg, the doc said it was trapped blood. They drew two needles full of dark blood. There is still a painful knot in there. Is this normal? What should I do now?

This is very commom after an ablation procedure and even after microphlebectomies. The trade offs for not making incisions, stripping veins and placing sutures are "lumps and bumps". These will resolve over time and may take many months. Aspiration is the correct thing to do and may need to be repeated. Applying wet warm compresses to these areas and taking ibuprofen will also help.

This is a complication that can occur. There is probably nothing more to do but wait for everything to heal.
