Is it normal for my leg to look splotchy and purple? The injection bruises have faded but this large splotch is still there.

10 days ago my doctor injected glycerin in my thigh veins. At first it was swollen and now it's a solid pinkish-purple area about 6in wide with the spiders on top - darker and more numerous than before. Is this the healing process or permanent?

After only 10 days, assume it is a healing process. Make sure he/she checks you to make sure that no infection or trapped blood is present. Wear your stockings for a while longer during day time hours.

You will need to return to the doctor that performed sclera therapy. We do
not use this form of treatment.

Glycerine tends to cause more bruising and blotching than other forms of sclerotherapy and it tends to last a little longer. From what you describe this is probably normal. This should not be permanent. You should give it more time to heal.

You are still early after your treatment. Healing is still going on. We typically don't follow-up for 4 weeks for complete healing to occur. We do not use glycerin in our clinic so I am not totally familiar with problems associated with it.
It would normally be used if someone is allergic to the two FDA approved solutions or by less experienced practitioners as it has a low complication rate but is difficult to inject. I would recommend you see your doctor and have him ultrasound the area.
If he is unable to do that I would get a second opinion from an experienced vein treatment surgeon for evaluation.
