Microphlebectomy or EVLT with Sclerotherapy?
1 year ago I saw a doctor who said I needed a microphlebectomy for the varicose veins on my right calf. I never did it as I was worried about recuperation. I recently went to a new doctor who said I need evlt and Sclerotherapy. Which is better? I'm 34 and healthy

Actually, a combination of the two is probably the best treatment for you. It seems both the prior physicians may have left out a little information. When one has varicose veins, there is generally underlying venous insufficiency as the source, which is best treated by EVLT of the causative vein, typically the greater or lesser saphenous vein. However, alone this will probably not completely resolve the superficial, visible and palpable varicose veins. These can be treated by either injection sclerotherapy, or micro-phlebectomy, but you still need the EVLT of the underlying vein. My preference is for EVLT with microphlebectomy. With sclero, you would have the EVLT and then have to come back for a series of treatments, possibly 3-5, each of which would be a month apart. The phlebectomy would be performed with the EVLT, so it would be a one-shot deal, and done. This is a minimally invasive procedure, with minimal downtime. You would be back to work and normal activities within 48 hours.
Very truly yours,
