I had an EVLT and phlebectomy 1 year ago, but now there is a branch vein that my doctor wants to take care of with sclerotherapy injections. How long after the procedure is it safe to become pregnant? Will the solution have any impact on the future fetus?
No lasting effects on conception/pregnancy. the drug of sclerotherapy is inactive within seconds after injection

The sclerotherapy drug is typically metabolized by your body within a few minutes to an hour or so after treatment; therefore, it should have no affect on when you can get pregnant. It should also have no impact on your future fetus. That said, we typically do not treat anyone who is actively pregnant or in the process of trying to get pregnant, or anyone who is actively breastfeeding unless they pump and dump.

There is no known effect of sclerosants on the fetus. However, we are cautious and do not treat a pregnant woman with sclerotherapy. If the treatment is done prior to conception, there will be no impact on a a future fetus; the medicine is eliminated from your system in 24 to 48 hours.

The sclerosant is no longer in the body after 1 week, but it is probably a good idea to wait until all the veins that need to be treated are treated before you become pregnant, just in case you need to retreat any with sclero.

While it is safe to conceive 24 hours after sclerotherapy, the hormones of pregnancy may undo some of the treatment and reopen treated veins. It is probably wise to wait a few months after sclerotherapy before becoming pregnant for the best results, but no harm will come to the fetus.

The sclerosant is gone by the next day, so you can try to conceive 24 hours after the procedure.

The solution dissipates very fast in the body, so even after one day would be okay.

While no studies have been conducted on the effects of sclerosants on a a fetus, physicians will avoid injecting a patient who is pregnant or nursing. If you are actively trying to become pregnant, I would err on the side of caution and wait to have the veins injected later. Compression hose will help slow down the process of more or larger veins developing during pregnancy. Typically, the solution will be out of your system within 24 hours.

The medicine from sclerotherapy is gone from your body in 24 hours, for it is metabolized. So, considering this, it would be safe to get pregnant as early 24 hours after the treatment. It will have no lasting effect on fetal development.

There are no studies to show the effects of sclerotherapy on a developing fetus. I certainly would not recommend any sclerotherapy if you are pregnant. Sclerotherapy most likely is out of your system within 24 to 48 hours of the treatment, but the effects of sclerotherapy may take up to 6 weeks to dissolve the veins. To be safe, I would recommend avoiding pregnancy for 6 weeks post-sclerotherapy treatment.

There is debate over whether sclerotherapy can or will affect a fetus if a woman is pregnant. To be safe, it is recommended that patients refrain from undergoing the procedure if they are pregnant. If you are not, there should be no risk to your future fetus.

I would wait at least a week to be safe.
