Reticular Vein Treatments in Houston, Texas (TX)

Reticular veins are located deep in the leg and are more likely to swell and give you discomfort, particularly when you stand for long periods of time. They can also show up on the face.

If you notice squiggly, spaghetti-like veins showing up on the surface of your skin, you may have reticular veins.

Causes for reticular veins

Much in the same way spider veins and varicose veins manifest, reticular veins are caused by flowing backwards and pooling in the veins rather than traveling towards the heart. This happens because the valves or walls of the veins are not working properly. Reticular veins occur more often in women than in men.

Symptoms of reticular veins include:
  • Bulging blue or purple squiggly veins on the thighs, legs, ankles, and sometimes face
  • Discomfort in the legs that occur after long periods of standing
  • Leg discomfort disappears after 10-30 minutes of leg elevation

Treatments for reticular veins

  • Sclerotherapy. This is a procedure that involves injecting a special medication into the problematic vein. It collapses the walls of the vein, which causes it to seal shut and become scar tissue.
  • Surface Laser/Light Therapy. Surface laser or light therapy uses focused light to heat up and close the reticular vein. Blood flow is naturally rerouted to healthier veins.

Costs

The cost of treating reticular veins can vary depending on your area, physician, and insurance coverage. Generally, your health insurance may cover a treatment if your doctor determines that it is medically necessary, and is not just for cosmetic reasons.

Searching for varicose vein treatment or spider vein treatment?

Welcome to Texas Vein & Cosmetic Specialists. Dr. Michael Bardwil, our founder, is a board certified vascular surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in the treatment of veins and addresses issues related to vascular disease. Within our website, you will find comprehensive information about vein disease and you will learn about your options for vein treatment.

Vascular Surgery is the specialty dedicated to the treatment of arteries, veins, and lymphatics. The reason people seek evaluation by a vascular surgeon regarding their legs is for evaluation of their circulation. You may notice bulging veins, spider veins, pain with walking, pain at night, leg swelling with or without skin discoloration, or a non-healing wound.

Unlike many vein centers that have popped up in the area over the past 10 years, Texas Vein & Cosmetic Specialists is operated by a board certified vascular surgeon. As a board certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Michael Bardwil will be able to evaluate your symptoms and determine if they are circulatory in nature, and whether or not you are a candidate for treatment at our state-of-the-art vein clinic. Dr. Bardwil will evaluate your veins and your arterial circulation and determine the best treatment plan specifically for you. In addition to varicose veins and spider veins, Dr. Bardwil also treats venous ulcers and non-healing leg wounds.

With over 25 years of experience in vascular medicine, Dr. Bardwil operates one of the most established and renowned vein clinics in the greater Houston metropolitan area.
