I had a varicose vein stripped around 8 years ago and it has returned. I was considering ablation. Is this a good option?

I'm a hairdresser always, and on my feet. I have varicose veins in both legs. I had thread vein treatment post op privately to remove clusters but they are still visible. The unsightly appearance of the veins prevent me wearing shorts or dresses.
I wanted to know if the ablation would be a possible option to banish the veins, or will they just keep coming?

Have a venous ultrasound done with mapping, then you can consider your options.

You may have developed weakness in other veins. Ablation is the better option at any time.

You have inherited the gene and will get new vein trouble over time. Sclerotherapy is the best treatment for thread veins.

I am not sure what you mean by "thread vein treatment" but I would recommend you seek an evaluation with a board-certified, vascular-trained surgeon including a comprehensive ultrasound examination. This will determine if there is an underlying vein reflux in the saphenous veins. If so, EVLA (laser ablation) is the appropriate treatment and microphlebectomy to remove bulging veins at the same setting. This is an in-office procedure with limited downtime. We always recommend compression hose for those with jobs requiring a lot of standing. You will be more comfortable and it will slow the progression of the venous insufficiency.
