I had ablation and phlebectomies 3 weeks ago to resolve varicose eczema I thought the eczema had subsided but now it has returned. Is this normal?

You are early in the healing process. I would recommend continued compression hose and a good quality barrier cream several times per day (such as Epionce Medical Barrier cream). Additionally your surgeon should look for any "perforator" veins in the area which can continue to cause problems. If present, they can be injected under ultrasound guidance.

The ablation and microphlebectomies will reduce the venous hypertension and over time improve the skin nutrition. The eczema will improve over time but it may never revert to a normal leg. You should use a moisturizing cream or emollient to the area and give it several months to see the effect.

If the skin changes (eczema) was from long standing venous disease it can take a while to resolve after the venous treatments. I would discuss this with your physician when you return for your follow-up visit. There may be some residual disease causing the skin irritation to return. That can be diagnosed with duplex ultrasound.
