Superficial Thrombosis in my left arm due to IV. Ultrasound says stable, pain reached crease where elbow is.

It's been 4.5 weeks since initial diagnosis of Superficial Thrombosis (arm). I had a second ultrasound 1 week ago that showed I still have clots, but are stable. My veins near my wrist are on and off swollen and sore to the touch at wrist and in the elbow crease. I can't get a straight answer from PCP. I'm leaving the country in a few days. There's not enough time to see a specialist. I'm taking asprin and doing warm compresses. Is this a normal rate of recovery and what's the risk for DVT?

These STEs typically resolve with aspirin and low heat often. I would not recommend you leave the country as there is an occasional chance that the clot will extend further up your arm and chest. While it's not common, it is a risk.

I've had nearly all the symptoms of venous reflux for 4-5 years but the doctors couldn't answer why. After some "normal" scans, it now shows I have reflux in the GSV of both legs, from the proximal thigh to distal calf. Why didn't this show up earlier? How long does it take for a vein to reflux and for reflux to appear on scans? Could it cause upper thigh and hip pain? I had a piriformis release, but the pain continues. I can't sleep because the pain is so pronounced. Painkillers barely help.

I fell pretty hard last November on my left knee, and it is really tender behind the knee. I also have swelling from knee to foot. Can the venous reflux on the right cause the swellng on the left leg, or might the injured knee be the problem? Over the last six months I have flown twice and have had several long car trips.

I recently went to the doctor with a lump in the crook of my elbow that had been there for about 5 weeks. The doctor initially wanted to get an ultrasound on it in case it was a lymph node or DVT. I then told him that 2 weeks before it had appeared I had an IV in the same arm. With that new information, he immediately stated that he was 99.9% sure that it was a superficial thrombosis and that it would resolve on its own. It's now almost 9 weeks and still there. Is that normal?
