Can compression stockings be used routinely?

Is there any danger in wearing compression stockings daily for a long period of time?

There is little risk wearing compression daily. If you have issues with swelling or aching, it can be very helpful. We wear them ourselves. You can also use a subclinical strength (15-20 mmHg), which is very comfortable.

There is no danger to wearing compression stockings daily . In fact, if properly fitted, they will be very beneficial to your legs. They should not be too tight and should not be worn in the presence of significant arterial occlusive disease.

There is no danger unless you have severe peripheral artery disease. I would recommend getting fitted for them and speaking to your physician for the appropriate type.

No, the daily use of compression stockings, particularly for an individual whose occupation or activities require standing or sitting for prolonged periods can only help your legs. The only time there might be a concern would be in an individual who has significant arterial disease, in which case the stockings might reduce already limited arterial blood flow in the limb. A venous specialist will be able to evaluate you and determine if their use is appropriate in your case.

No danger in wearing stockings that are properly fitted. They can be worn around the clock without concern. Just make sure that they fit appropriately. Most physicians will measure the legs prior to fitting, or at the pharmacy where they were purchased.

No, there is no contraindication to continue wearing compression stockings. Ideally for "general maintenance" 15-20mmHg would be the best.

Compression support hose which are properly fitted and properly worn should not be a problem with daily use. In most cases, it is wise to remove the hose for a least a short time daily for hygiene and to rest the skin from the compression. Patients with peripheral neuropathy or decreased arterial blood flow in the feet must exercise greater care in the use of compression and in the degree of compression. Physician evaluation may help make a better choice of hose.

However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
