Can laser light therapy be used when a person has DVT?

I'm suffering from chronic venous insufficiency due to DVT. My IVC and external iliacs are blocked. I'm wearing compession stockings at the moment, but varicose veins keep forming, even on my feet and toes. Can laser light therapy help?

LLLT can be done for cosmetic purposes and it needs to have a certain diameter and criteria. What you are referring can help with spider veins but will not solve the systemic problem.

These veins maybe forming because they are the "new" route for venous return from you leg if your deep veins and IVC are truely occluded. Would be risky in my opinion to try closing off the superficial veins in this type of situation. A full venous ultrasound would tell this information.

Based on your decription it would be absolutely contraindicated. You should explore the possibility of re-opening your illiac veins. It is possible to a catheterization procedure that can re-open the occluded illiac veins and place an stent in them. The results are excellent. Seems that you definitively need some help ASAP but DO NOT do EVLT of the saphenous veins because are the life line of your legs.

You are not a candidate for intervention at this time. Laser light therapy is a topical laser mostly used for pigmentation or smaller spider veins depending upon the type of laser.
Your body is in the process of re-routing blood return to the heart. I would recommend you follow the advice of your vascular surgeon and hematologist and continue with your blood thinners, compression hose etc.
At a later date you might be a candidate for micro-phlebectomy (removal of varicose veins through tiny punctures) but not until your venous system has stabilized.

Superficial laser or light therapy would be useless for the condition you describe. You need to see a vascular surgeon or interventional radiologist skilled in angioplasty and stenting of iliac vein occlusions. The vast majority can be treated even when the ivc is involved.
