My compression stockings leave a line around my ankle, cut off circulation in my ankle/foot, and cause fluid to build in my foot. What should I do?

Sounds like you have inappropriately sized garments. There are customized compression garments manufactured by retail providers in this field. You could also get a larger or lighter garment. I would certainly check in with your vein specialist.

Given your description, the compression stockings you have are ill-fitting. The hose are not supposed to leave a line around the ankle, cut off circulation or cause fluid to build up in the foot. Discontinue their use and get properly fitted for a new pair.

Your hose do not seem correctly fitted. Not all hose are created equal. A higher quality (therefore usually more expensive) such as Sigvaris have better fabric (Opaque style). You should be measured and fitted by an experienced and certified fitter. I would avoid wearing anything constrictive around the ankles or knees as it will impede your circulation.

Take the stockings off. Compression stockings are designed to be tight. However, despite any potential symptomatic help wearing them might provide, they do not fix or improve or slow down the progression of one's vein disease. Therefore, you have a few options: one is to be resized to make sure that the stockings are the correct fit; two, you don't have to wear them; three, have your leg veins evaluated to see if you can fix them so that there is no need for stocking wear.

You need to either stretch it enough to avoid the line or get a larger size compression stocking.

Your compression stocking is not fitting properly. You need to get a different pair that fits, or consider a custom made graduated compression stocking.

If the compression stockings cause swelling, you should get a better fit.

Get refitted. Those stockings do not sound like they fit correctly.

However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
