Pain 5 weeks after phlebectomy?

I had some phlebectomy's 5 weeks ago (2 at the ankle, 1 over the knee, 1 medial superior calf). I have burning pain & tenderness over some of the remaining posterior veins in the calf. DVT was ruled out. How long does phlebitis last? is this normal?

This may not be phlebitis, but in the absence of infection or DVT, you can safely wait it out, and your symptoms will most likely improve over the next 4-6 weeks.

You probably have some areas of "trapped blood" in the residual veins from the phlebectomies. While it is unusual if most of the problem veins are removed it can occur and the vein becomes irritated (phlebitic).
I would recommend you see you surgeon again to see if he can insert a needle into these areas to release trapped blood or you can apply low heat often, take an anti-inflammatory medication 3 times per day (Aleve, Advil) and wear your compression hose.

Sounds like phlebitis which can take months to resolve completely.

It is not unusual to have some residual pain after ambulatory phlebectomy. It is due to the inflamation of the residual vein branches. You will probably feel better if you would use anti-inflamatories like ibuprofen 200-400mg every 8 hours for a week or 10 days provided you do not have contraindications for it. Make sure to have food in your stomach and drink plenty of water.

Pain after microphlebectomies is usually minimum and should not last more than 1 week. I am sure if you actually have phlebitis. Symptomatic treatment would consist of warm compresses and anti inflammatory meds such as motrin or advil.. If your symptoms do not improve, then I would recommend that you follow up with your treating physician. If you do have superficial phlebitis, this usually lasts about 2 weeks.
