Should I have Bruises from my compression stocking?

I am 16 years old and was put in a compression stocking on my right foot after fracturing my lisfranc joint in my foot playing hockey 3 months ago. I am now getting bruises on my mid foot where I injured my foot and on the sides. Is this normal?

Patients complain of "bruising" months after injury may well be complexes of reticular veins related to the injury or hyperpigmentation resulting from the bruise. Seek evaluation from an ABVLM certified vein specialist.

I do not think it is normal. Compression hose should not cause bruising. Perhaps they are too tight. It's been 3 months since your mid-foot fracture. You should probably ask the doctor if you still need to wear the hose and, if so, get properly measured by someone who works with compression hose on a regular basis.

While I am not an orthopedic surgeon, I do know that this type of injury can result in a lot of bruising deeper in the foot. Over time and with compression as the surrounding edema and inflammation resolves you may see the bruising become more apparent. Bruising does move (Livido).

This is not usually typical and may be related to the fracture, so you should see your doctor.

The stockings should not be causing the bruising and you should not have bruising 3 months after the injury. follow up with your orthopedic surgeon.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
