Yellow fluid is draining from one of the incisions made during microphlebectomy, is this normal?

I had a microphlebectomy a week ago. The doctor inserted a lot of fluid in the veins to deaden them. I am now having a lot of drainage from one of the cuts. It is yellow in color. Is this normal, or is it something I should be concerned about?

What you describe could be a lymphocele. This will pass with time. Occasionally they don't drain and your doctor may need to insert a small needle into it. This is just a small disruption of some lymph drainage vessels and it will return to normal.

The fluid is probably lymph fluid, which should eventually stop leaking. But, to be safe, contact your treating physician and schedule a follow-up appointment.

Clear (water-like) or pinkish fluid is normal. Yellow liquid could represent infection. You need to go back and see your doctor ASAP.

Following microhlebectomies several things tend to happen: sometimes hard areas tend to form under the incisions. These are due to accumulated blood following the vein removal. Occasionally, yellow drainage can occur, especially over the bony surfaces. This is due to lymphatic fluid, and usually resolves with pressure. Even more rarely, these micro-incision sites can become red and inflamed, and then they are treated with NSAIDS, heat and occasionally antibiotics. What you seem to be describing is lymphatic drainage, or it could be some leakage of the tumescent fluid used for the anesthesia. Give it time to heal and follow up with your surgeon.
