Compression Stockings . 2 answers . 2 years ago

I'm on Plavix for heart Issues but my vascular doctor prescribed compression hose for the pain, varicose veins, discoloration and swelling in my legs. Since wearing them I am bruising badly when taking them off. 26 bruises. Are they too tight or what's the problem?

Plavix is a potent anti-platelet medication and bruising can occur with even minor trauma. You should consider discussing with your physician to determine the pros/cons of graduated compression in your situation. Also, you may consider an alternative style/size of stockings, but let your physician know and have the discussion with them.

Plavix increases your chances of bruising and, if the stockings are too tight, the chances of bruising with wearing them increases. I would recommend you have your veins evaluated by a vein specialist to see if they can safely be treated by either a closure procedure or sclerotherapy. Also you may need to have your blood tested for its ability to clot. You should also check what other medications you take that may contribute to the problem such as aspirin, Vitamin E, flaxseed oil, fish oil, anti inflammatories, etc.
