8 days after EVLA I've been experiencing numbness and sharp shooting pain inside my right ankle. Could this be caused by the procedure? What to do?

Eight days after EVLA I started experiencing numbness and sharp shooting pain inside my right ankle. My doctor said it's the result of the numbing agent used during surgery, and that it is wearing off. He also said that my paid should go way in 3 days. It's been 17 days now and the symptoms have not gone away. Could these symptoms be caused by the procedure? What should I do now?

You have some sensory nerve irritation from the procedure to the saphenous nerve, which is next to the greater saphenous vein that was closed by the laser treatment. This nerve can recover slowly, and it may take 4-6 months for the feeling to return.

It is not unusual to have some increase in discomfort about 10-14 days after EVLA when the deeper tissue inflammation resolves and small nerve endings "wake up." However, symptoms as you describe may be more associated with the larger nerves higher in the legs being irritated during the procedure. I recommend continued massage down the leg, including areas treated. Do this several times per day and it may help reduce this.
