Yes. It is possible for varicose veins to recur after prior treatments. It may be beneficial for you to have a new evaluation with a vein specialist to assess for new causes of your symptoms and determine a treatment plan to eliminate recurrent varicose veins.

If you had the old stripping surgery, then you probably have new varicose veins. It has been found that the old stripping technique actually causes new varicose veins to grow years down the road. That is why it is not done any more, because it is very ineffective. I would recommend you see a physician who is accredited by the American College of Phlebology to have an ultrasound done and to discuss more appropriate treatment options.

Yes, you can have pain years after vein stripping. While it could be from the procedure, you might also have new abnormal veins, or you might have other problems like edema, neuropathy and muscle pain.

It is possible since the vein stripping procedure in itself can damage nerves along the way. Furthermore, vein stripping also only addresses a small part of an average person's total quantity of abnormal veins. Therefore, if you had pain before the vein stripping and continue to have it afterward, it is highly likely that the doc who performed your stripping procedure only addressed a small part of your vein problem. A good indicator is how long your treatment took. If you only had a couple of visits to your doc, you probably only had 5% of your vein issues addressed. A comprehensive vein treatment should take on average an excess of 25-30 visits over the course of a few months. Remember that your vein issues did not develop over night and as a result do not go away in 1-2 visits.

Unfortunately, patients experience pain years after vein stripping quite often, which is why a large majority of doctors prefer less invasive procedures. You need to see a vein specialist who is accredited by the American College of Phlebology.

It is possible to have pain years after vein stripping. This could be due to nerve irritation or scarring. There may not be much that you can do for this, but I would recommend that you see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation, and to see if there is another cause of the problem besides the prior vein stripping.
