No, it is not normal for compression socks to cause a burning sensation in your legs. If the compression garment is not fitting properly and or worn properly [pull all the up and smooth] it can cause symptoms. The most common symptom of ill fitting compression stocking is pressure. Burning sensation can be caused by compression socks, however, the burning sensation is much more likely to occur if there is a peripheral neuropathy. My recommendation is to first check to make sure the sock is fitting properly and is placed properly. If the burning does not resolve, the next step is to check with your doctor to see if you might have a peripheral neuropathy and the compression strength is optimal.

No. The stockings, if appropriately fitted, should help your legs to feel better after wearing them.

Improperly fitted stockings may cause pain especially around the calf. Select a style or brand that fits your leg best.

No, this is not normal. It sounds like the hose may be the wrong fit.

Compression stockings should not cause burning. Most likely, they do not fit properly. Try a different pair or get a custom-fitted stocking.

You may be having an allergic reaction to the stockings. Try another brand.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
