Yes, this can be normal. Give it a few weeks, then get an evaluation. Do not wear compression stockings to bed as they can worsen arterial circulation or aggravate nerves if worn too long or at night.

It can be normal to have some discomfort in the foot since that is where the compression is the highest. It depends on the style on compression stockings you have. If open toe, you can cut a small slit in the band. If closed toe, I don't have any advice other than you should contact your treating physician or the specialist who prescribed the hose.

Typically, we recommend the hose be removed at night as the legs are elevated. In extreme cases of ulceration and severe swelling, we will have patients wear hose 24 hrs per day for a short period of time. The aching may or may not be related to the hose if you wore them on both legs.

Pain or discomfort can occur in the foot after wearing compression stockings, especially if worn at night or if the hose is not the proper fit. To be sure that the pain is coming from the stocking and is the cause of something else, take them off for a while and see if the discomfort goes away. If not, you may want to contact your treating physician.
