25 Years of Success with a Vision for Tomorrow

This year, the American College of Phlebology (ACP) will celebrate the 25th year of their Annual Congress, which has grown to become the premier educational forum for the diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders in the United States, drawing internationally recognized speakers and more than 1,000 attendees annually. This achievement is no small feat, and has been accomplished only through the support of the ACP’s more than 2,000 members, tireless volunteers, and investment from the ACP Foundation and their corporate partners.

This year also heralds the six year anniversary of the founding of the ACP Foundation, formed to support, through funding, initiatives that advance the level of awareness of venous disorders and improve patient care. To that end, the ACP Foundation has been particularly successful.

Foundation of the Future of Phlebology

Launched to establish the ACP Foundation in 2006, the “Foundation of the Future of Phlebology” campaign has raised more than $4 million to date for public awareness, professional education and research in the field of phlebology. Through such initiatives and annual events like the Golf Outing and Silent Auction at the Annual Congress, the AC P Foundation has played a pivotal role in furthering the specialty in many significant ways. Here are just a few examples:

American Medical Association (AMA) recognition of phlebology as a specialty
Creation of the American Board of Phlebology (now known as ABVLM) which was spun off independently in 2008 and since has had 520 physicians achieve the title of ABPh Diplomate
Creation of the first academic phlebology fellowship programs at the University of California in San Diego and New York University
CME Category 1 status from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)

“The Foundation is tremendously thankful for all the ACP members who invested in the specialty and the corporate organizations who took a leadership role in this community,” states Nick Morrison, Chairman of the ACP Foundation. “All of these contributions had a hand in the advancement of the ACP, ACPF and the specialty of phlebology.”

“While tremendous strides have been made in the field of phlebology, both in terms of public awareness and recognition of the specialty within the medical community, there is still much work to be done,” says Morrison.

Vision for Tomorrow

At the ACP 25th Annual Congress, the ACP Foundation will roll out a new project called “Vision for Tomorrow”. Designed to build off the success of the “Foundation of the Future” initiative as well as the achievements of the ACP over the last 25 years, “Vision for Tomorrow” is set to affirm the ACP & ACP Foundation as the leading research, education and public awareness organizations in the field of phlebology.
