Brian G. Firth

Dr. Firth, as Chief Scientific Officer, has responsibilities for clinical research, regulatory, R &D, and reimbursement. He spent the first half of his professional life in academia and the second in the business world.

He holds MD (Cape Town), PhD (Oxford), and MBA degrees. He attended Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Brian is a board-certified cardiologist and Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He has worked as a physician in South Africa, England, and the USA. He served on the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas from January 1980 to May 1990. He was a tenured full Professor of Medicine, Director of the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital, and Director of the clinical cardiology fellowship training program. He has over 80 scientific publications to his credit.

Dr. Firth has also held the positions of Executive Director, Worldwide Cardiovascular Strategic Product Planning at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Besselaar (the pioneering contract research company based in Princeton, NJ), and successively as Vice President of Research and Development, Clinical Research, Health Economics and Reimbursement for &J Interventional Systems and Cordis. Brian has served on the Board of Grey Nun Academy in Yardley, PA, as Treasurer of St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Newtown, PA, and chair of the finance committee and Vice-Chairman of the board of Heritage Conservancy in Doylestown, PA.
